Natural Mosquito Repellents Methods

As we are all aware, mosquitoes are vectors that transmit diseases such as the West Nile virus and malaria. However, controlling these insects has become challenging due to the chemical contained in almost all repellents. The DEET chemical found in insect repellents is known to cause insomnia and impaired cognitive function. To prevent these disorders, try the following natural mosquito repellents.

Natural Mosquito repellents methods are normally considered as part of our WDI Inspection.

Garlic

Not only is garlic important when it comes to health matters, but also in repelling mosquitoes. Eating garlic is one of the natural ways of getting rid of these nasty insects. You should take one clove a day. The garlic gives one a gnarly breath that is responsible for repelling insects. However, take more than one clove a day in areas with high numbers of mosquitoes

Light clothing

Mosquitoes are quite rampant at night. They are attracted to dark clothing. In order to repel them, you should put on light clothes.

Unscented toiletries

Mosquitoes are easily attracted to scented flowers and fruits. Therefore, make sure that your toiletries are unscented. Mosquitoes will have no attractant in your home and will probably go searching for attractants.

Citronella candles

Citronella has a strong smell that not only puts off mosquitoes but also other insects. The citronella candles are made from the oil of citronella grass. Alternatively, the oil can be directly used on the skin. To increase the efficiency of this method, combine it with other natural repellent methods.

Lemon eucalyptus oil

According to Consumer reports magazine and the New England journal of medicine, this is the most effective natural mosquito repellent. It is also known to last for up to six hours. For customized protection, you can buy the lemon and eucalyptus oil separately and mix with your lotion. Alternatively, you can purchase an already mixed product and use it.

Geranium, soybean and coconut oil

According to the recent study by the USDA, this is the most effective mosquito repellent than most DEET products. It is found in either lotion or spray form and is available in a product called Bite Blocker. The blend lasts for about one hour after application. The product has a sweet tropical scent and is effective even under water.

Baby oil

You should slather your skin with baby oil. Mosquitoes despise the smell of baby oil. More so, they find it very difficult to find an area to alight and bite.

Use fans

Mosquitoes are weak and small animals. The force from a moving fan is capable of blowing them away. Therefore, you should set a number of fans for this method to be effective.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is also a natural method to repel mosquitoes. You simply soak ribbons in the oil and stick on the window. This method is as effective to other insects as well. Tea tree oil has a strong smell that will prevent insects from entering your house. You should use lavender oil if you detest the smell of tea tree oil

Destruction of mosquito habitats

You should keep the grass around your home as short as possible. More so, drain all areas with water and also loose all piles of vegetation. All these are ideal breeding sites for mosquitoes.
