Did you know that the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is actually the OLDEST botanic garden in the entire state of Texas?! Who knew that we had this treasure located right here in our own backyard of Cowtown.
That’s pretty impressive! It’s been entertaining families with nature since all the way back in 1934, so it’s a pretty special place.
The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is 110 acres of amazing colors, plants, and gardens. There are actually over 2,500 species of native and exotic plants which sit across 23 speciality gardens, so those little green thumbs are in for a treat!
Depending on the type of garden you like, there will be something for you. The Conservatory is 10,000 square feet of tropical foliage, with winding paths, kaleidoscopes of flowers, and exotic trees from all across the globe!
An amazing experience for the senses is the Fragrance Gardens, with dozens of scented plants that the kids will just love running up to and exploring! Here’s a tip kids – rub the leaves and see what happens! With fountains and ivy covered fences, it’s a great place to enjoy quality time with the children.
We’re in Texas, so it’s only fitting that the Fort Worth Botanic Garden has a Texas Native Forest Boardwalk, which really is a living outdoor classroom! The elevated boardwalk has viewing platforms and educational features, where kids can learn all about the amazing forest that surround them.
There are also fun things for the children – like log beams to balance on, hollow trees to crawl through, and even a “log hotel” so they can see what kind of animals live in a forest habitat!
Fort Worth Botanic Garden have thought of it all, which is why they have PLENTY of family activities for you to enjoy! There is a fun Backyard Vegetable Garden where once a month kids aged over 4 years can enjoy fun gardening activities. There is a monthly program in the sensory garden for those little spouts, and once a month “family drop ins” where there is a very cool evening program for the entire family.
